"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." -- Arthur C. Clarke

...

I thought about this just now. I...either think this Earthian guy was a genius or a whack-a-loon, right now.

YOU'RE A FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST FAN AND THIS ONLY OCCURRED TO YOU JUST NOW?

SHUT UP. IT'S FICTION. I DIDN'T PUT TWO AND TWO TOGETHER.
25th-Apr-2009 08:03 pm (UTC)
MORON.
25th-Apr-2009 07:58 pm (UTC)
...Beo, we have a laboratory.
25th-Apr-2009 08:02 pm (UTC)
I'm not a moron, I swear!
25th-Apr-2009 08:03 pm (UTC)
You're not proving it right now, I'll tell you that.
25th-Apr-2009 07:59 pm (UTC)
...throw in biological components and I don't think I disagree.
25th-Apr-2009 08:02 pm (UTC)
I think that's the only way I could really agree, as well...

I third the little edit.

Hm...interesting. I wonder if it's true. Maybe it is.

You know, I always wondered what would happen if you went back in the dark ages with the stuff we have today. I bet movies would scare the piss out of them, especially with the CGI.

And you know I'd be a dick and say 'Oh yes, this is what the future looks like, we're overrun with orcs/aliens/whatnot'.

People explore that in fiction all the time, don't they? Like, pretend to be wizards because they have meteorology shit and can predict the weather.
25th-Apr-2009 08:08 pm (UTC)
Yeah, but they're not so much dicks about it as I think I would be.
25th-Apr-2009 08:05 pm (UTC)
I think he's got a pretty good point. I mean, I was pretty impressed when they made automatic doors, I would have thought it was magic if I didn't know better.
25th-Apr-2009 08:07 pm (UTC)
Well, that's the thing. "Know better." Why is it really knowing "better"?
What if that's all it is? Just another word for it.
25th-Apr-2009 08:08 pm (UTC)
I just meant I knew that it wasn't magic and it was a new invention before I got to try it out.

Most magical advancement ever = the iPod.

Seriously, you should have seen how many tapes I lugged around when Walkmans came out. Plus the batteries!
25th-Apr-2009 08:09 pm (UTC)
I think the best thing was Le Red/the world wide web.
25th-Apr-2009 08:13 pm (UTC)
True! Oh, for sure. I think I just take it for granted way too much now, though.
25th-Apr-2009 08:12 pm (UTC)
I think that's a really cool quote.

And all the greatest technological advancements are like magic in that magic is what people use to describe things that are impossible for man to accomplish on his own. But there are people that have been smart enough to dream and think outside of the box and challenge the boundaries of mankind and make the impossible happen.

...okay, I think I had a point there, but it's disappeared. I need to have a nap...
25th-Apr-2009 08:15 pm (UTC)
I got your point, kid, don't worry.
In short, technology = magic.
25th-Apr-2009 08:17 pm (UTC)
Yes, thank you.

How else could something the size of a cellphone keep me from dropping dead, right?
25th-Apr-2009 08:20 pm (UTC)
Or medicine, in general.
...the hospital Kyle works at makes me laugh a lot, now.
